The Val Grande National Park Archaeological Museum is housed in an historic building in Malesco, restored in 2006. The important archaeological finds on display in its rooms were found at various locations across the Vigezzo Valley and range from the Bronze Age to Roman times, up to the Early Middle Ages.
Today the Val Grande National Park Museum is dedicated to soapstone, a very common feature in the area around Malesco. Also known as “laugera”, leuzerie in dialect, soapstone is particularly malleable and was used to make objects for domestic use, architectural ornaments and plumbing systems.
