The Parish Church of Antrona was rebuilt after the 1642 landslide, the same landslide that formed a natural barrier and created today’s Lake Antrona. The reconstruction works, together with those for the enlargement of the oratory of San Rocco, were entrusted to the master builder Bartolomeo Tami di Valleggia. The bell tower of the Parish Church of Antrona was finished in 1660, while the portico dates back to 1685, the year in which the church was completed. Local sculptor Giulio Guaglio created the altars in gilded wood, as well as the altar of Sant’Antonio.
The most recent major frescoes inside the Parish Church of Antrona date back to 1887. Some Vigezzo painters, including Bernardino Peretti, further embellished this place of worship. The ciborium of the high altar, completed in 1686, is considered one of the most beautiful Baroque works in Piedmont and this alone makes it worth visiting the Parish Church of San Lorenzo in Antrona.
