The Parish Church of San Giorgio in Varzo in Divedro Valley, was constructed around 1100 on a pre-existing Romanesque building and later enlarged and remodelled in 1300 and 1540.
Around 1650, the period in which Varzo assumed a fundamental role for the transit of goods over the Simplon Pass, the vestibule was built and today it can be found in front of the main door of the Church of San Giorgio.
Inside, the structure has a central nave covered with cross vaults that have replaced the original wooden ceiling. The elegant portico, supported by coupled columns, deprives the façade of its solemnity, as it was initially characterised by a large central rose window. Outside you can admire ancient frescoes, including the one dedicated to St. Francis, among the earliest found in Piedmont and dated around 1300.
