Discovered in 1863 by a young shepherdess intrigued by the strong iron-like flavour of its water, the Bognanco spring was initially purchased by the town’s parish priest, who then founded a company to market the water.
In subsequent years, other springs were found and Bognanco was turned into a spa and resort. Bognanco water, which comes from three springs, can still be tasted today in the historic pavilion that dates back to the early-20th century.
The Centro Termale Óniro, which is now fully modernized, is a specialized centre that offers the assistance of qualified medical staff. The spa complex contains two pools with healthy water and hydromassage jets, both of which have a temperature of around 31°C, a Turkish bath, emotional and tropical showers with aromatherapy and chromotherapy, a Finnish sauna and a horizontal massage shower with 1200 jets. There is also a room dedicated to relaxation and a room for tasting herbal teas, infusions and herbs.
Located just seven kilometres from Domodossola, the Bognanco spa is an important part of the Ossola’s wellness tourism, along with the Premia Spa in Antigorio Valley.
