Multi-pitch climbing in Antigorio Valley, Formazza and Antrona

The Antigorio Valley is rich in long climbing routes, all on the beautiful Serizzo stone characteristic of this part of Ossola Valley.
Starting this short journey of discovery from Pontemaglio, you can’t miss Pacha Mama, or Curricachiovi, a great start to climbing on the hard Gneiss rock in the area and a good place to climb in the shade on hot mornings.
Above Goglio, in Baceno, which can be found along the road to Alpe Devero, there are two great mid-season routes, while along the road from Baceno to Formazza lots of routes have recently been opened, some very convenient to reach, but all quite challenging.
Some of these routes are described in detail on the Ossolaclimbingnews Facebook page.
The length of these routes varies from four to twelve lengths with difficulty up to 8a. The rock is always excellent and you need some experience to protect yourself using nuts and friends.

The routes on the east wall of Clogstafel in the Formazza Valley are excellent on hotter days, as are those on the wall behind the Miryam Refuge, which can be reached from Canza or Valdo on the comfortable Sagersboden chairlift.
Both the altitude and exposure to the sun make them perfect when at lower altitudes it’s impossible even to put your climbing shoes on!

Finally, for those who want to try two mountaineering routes on a remote wall, we recommend Diretta and Direttissima on the east wall of Mittelruck. The first is a trad route in all respects, the second an intrepid masterpiece, both in Antrona Valley, above the beautiful Andolla refuge.
