Church of Santa Caterina in Craveggia

The Church of Santa Caterina of Alexandria in Vocogno, a hamlet of Craveggia, Vigezzo Valley, dates back many years and was mentioned for the first time as an oratory in a document written in 1484.
In 1600 it was felt that the building needed to be made bigger and, knocking down the old oratory, the Church of Santa Caterina was built, finished in 1660 and consecrated in 1690. A large grass-covered terrace now houses the church, with the façade marked by pilasters and recesses and the bell tower on the southern side.
Inside the church, with a single nave, in addition to the high altar, there’s a baptistery and three small altars.
Saint Catherine, who is depicted with a broken wheel to identify her, is celebrated on 25th November.
