The Formazza Valley has long been synonymous with cross-country skiing: this Ossola valley has always been home to Nordic skiing. Before skiing became a way to keep fit and have fun, it was above all an effective, fast way to get around during the long, cold winters in Formazza.
The “Centro del Fondo Formazza” in the San Michele resort, above the village, is the perfect cross-country skiing centre for beginners, athletes and professionals: 12 km of pistes of various difficulty set among larch and fir woods, plains and clearings, surrounded by the high peaks of Formazza Valley.
8 km are suitable for families and beginners, while 4 km are technical and intended for more experienced skiers. The whole route offers incredible views and passes most of the hamlets in Formazza Valley.
The “Centro del Fondo” offers a series of services and comforts: heated showers and changing rooms, waxing rooms, equipment hire and a café with a breakfast and lunch service offering tasty meals.
Less experienced skiers can take advantage of courses organized by the Scuola Sci di Fondo Formazza for children and adults, skiing lessons for the disabled, competitive courses with national instructors and telemark lessons.
