Borgomezzavalle was formed when Viganella and Seppiana were merged. It is famous for its mirror (linked to the name of Viganella since it was built before the two villages were merged) which each year literally brings the sun to the centre of this small village.
Indeed, from November to February, in this hidden part of the Antrona Valley, the sun no longer lights up the distinctive stone houses: each winter since 2006, thanks to this very special mirror, the result of an ingenious technological and engineering venture unlike any other in the world, the square and main meeting place of Borgomezzavalle is once again warmed by the sun’s rays.
Borgomezzavalle’s centre is characterised by unspoilt old rural buildings, typical of the area: stone and wood are distinguishing elements of the houses and animal stalls in the village, which have not been spoilt by modern additions.
As often occurs in the Ossola Valley, a pause and a stroll along the roads and through hamlets of these little-known villages immediately reveals the beauty and unique quality of these totally natural attractions!
