Bordo, a hamlet situated at an altitude of 750 metres (2461 ft) is one of the smallest and oldest rural centres in the Antrona Valley. Isolated and accessible only on foot, in the Second World War it faced a long period of disrepair due to being abandoned by its inhabitants, who decided to move to the valley bottom.
This condition, shared by many other places in the Ossola valleys, remained unchanged until the ’80s, when some Swiss and German families decided to buy houses and renovate them, preserving their original architectural features.
This is how the idea of founding a Buddhist community was born, still active today thanks to the German-speaking families who have settled here. Bordo is a united community which lives daily life in harmony and is always open to welcoming visitors.
In the hamlet of Bordo, the old rural buildings have been transformed into structures useful for the Buddhist centre life: the Retreat House, the Seminar House and the “Karma Decen Yangste Ling” Dharma Centre, the true beating heart of the community.
