Description

SNOWSHOEING IN ANTRONA VALLEY - CHEGGIO-CAVALLO DI RO ITINERARY

In Cheggio, after leaving the tarmacked road in front of the conveyor belt for the toboggan run, climb up the Passo del Fornalino valley, the summer connection with the Bognanco Valley. Once you reach the Alpe Meri Inferiore huts (1630 m, 0 h 20 m), head towards the prominent boulder crowned with a steel cross, then to the right in the direction of the Alpe Meri huts above. From this point, follow the gently sloping forest track up to the ridge (1895 m), from where you can admire the whole series of magnificent peaks with an altitude of 3000-4000 metres that characterize this area of Ossola. Along the way, you are advised against taking any detours towards the Fornalino pass and particularly against continuing, after reaching the Cavallo di Ro ridge, along the summer path towards the opposite Alpi di Cama due to the danger of avalanches on the steep slopes.
