Anzasca Valley is a real environmental and cultural treasure trove: the east face of Monte Rosa, one of the breath-taking natural sights of the Ossola Valley, the Walser buildings, the small museums, the traditional cuisine and gold minesMacugnaga, located right at the foot of the vast face of Monte Rosa, boasts as an important mountaineering history as the stage of adventurous and sometimes tragic stories.
Anzasca Valley can be reached by taking the A26 Genova-Gravellona Toce motorway, following signs for the national border. Take the Piedimulera exit and continue on Anzasca Valley’s trunk road 549 until you reach Macugnaga.

Here are the route created with the invaluable collaboration of Paolo Barcellini, a CAI Valle Anzasca hiking guide.

Description

Leave your car at the Belvedere resort’s ski lift facilities at the foot of Monte Rosa. Proceed alongside the ski slopes to the intermediate Burki station and then continue, following the slopes that descend from the right until you reach the arrival station of the Belvedere ski lifts (1904 m). Then ascend on the right alongside the travelator and descend until you reach the glacier. Cross it on a slight slope until you reach the opposite side of the moraine, then ascend and turn left towards the Zamboni refuge (closed in winter).
Alternatively, you can shorten the route by at least 1.5 hours by reaching Belvedere via the ski lifts.
