A very beautiful and interesting ski mountaineering excursion in a quiet environment where special encounters with the area’s fauna are not uncommon. The route from Bord crosses sunny slopes that are sheltered from the cold north wind. The summit offers a spectacular view.
Description
ASCENT:
From the hamlet of Bord, near Gondo, on the Swiss border towards Simplon Pass, ascend the meadows behind the houses, enter the forest on the right side of a little valley and continue up the steep terrain until you reach a road. Follow it for a short distance and then continue through the sparse larch forest and across the large clearings until you reach Junge Stafelwald at 1778 m.
Head west up the valley and you will come to a saddle on the northern ridge. Leave your skis and walk the easy climb up to the summit of the Guggilihorn.
DESCENT: same route.
