Dating back to 1989, the Sagra MeleMiele (Apple and honey harvest festival) is one of the best-known food festivals in the Ossola Valley. Held in Baceno, in Antigorio Valley, every year the mid-autumn MeleMiele festival offers visitors a jam-packed programme of events centred around a common theme that changes every year.
The festival’s main attraction is the market-exhibition, which showcases products tied to the rural agriculture of these mountain lands. Such products include apples, which are grown by increasing numbers of farmers, who are also helping to revive some of the older varieties, and honeys, made with care and passion by small local bee-keepers.
Other attractions at the MeleMiele festival include the stands selling food and wine delicacies and exquisite crafts from the Ossola Valley, not to mention the numerous side events, such as concerts, debates, workshops for adults and for children too, guided tours, excursions, hiking, dialogues, meetings and conventions about mountains, farming and food.
