From Domodossola, go to the hamlet of Preglia di Crevoladossola. From the centre of the hamlet, go up to the left towards the train station and continue along the road which makes it way to hamlet of Canei via some hairpin turns. From the small square, just before the houses, turn right and climb up a steep concrete road, which then becomes less steep and climbs the mountain. After another very steep section with several hairpin bends, you’ll reach Alpe Onzo, where the road leads into the valley via a very demanding route.
After several wide hairpin bends you reach the Alpine huts of the Alpe Fuori, where you can top up your water. Continue along the dirt road that alternates between long fairly steep straights, but in decent condition, with bends and false plateaus. It skirts Alpe Dentro and takes you to the meadows of Alpe di Andromia at 1855 m (6086), where it ends.
Continuing on foot and following the path behind the huts, you can visit the beautiful Lago di Andromia. Returning to the alpine huts, go downhill along the meadows in a westerly direction, cross the Deseno stream and then climb the slopes on foot in the direction of the Frove Pass. The path is not always very clear and often disappears, but the low vegetation allows you to walk quite easily.
Just before the pass, turn south and climb up the slope of Monte Rondo until you reach Loccia dei Balmelli, a wide saddle overlooking the Bognanco Valley. The route now follows the clear north-west ridge of the Lariè Summit at 2144 m (7034 ft), which you follow as far as the Vetta cairn. Continue along the crest in a south-easterly direction along a path that after a short while starts to descend towards some meadows. You can get back on your bike here and a fun descent takes you to Alpe Campo. Immediately turn right and follow the thin path that cuts through the meadows, enters the wood and, with fun but very technical stretches, leads to Alpe Spino. From the first huts there is a vehicle access route that soon becomes a road. Being careful of the very uneven surface, follow it as far as Monteossolano. From here, continue along the paved road that, passing by Cisore and Mocogna, leads to Domodossola.
