This short route at high altitude allows you to appreciate the best of the wonderful Alpe Veglia plain, its settlements and the picturesque Witches’ Lake. Veglia is a wonderful garden, fruit of the relationship between nature and the wise and respectful settlement of man. The route indicated can start from the village of Porteia “Casa del Parco” or you can complete an abbreviated version from the village of Cornù to return to Ponte Campo and San Domenico.
Description
From the village of Porteia, where “Casa del Parco” is located, walk anti-clockwise along the Alpe Veglia plain following route F10 as far as Cornù, passing the lime kiln. From the village of Cornù, pass the Monte Leone Alpine Hotel and the mineral water spring that flows just above. After crossing the stream, reach Ponte and from here, taking the F30 route, you pass Aione and reach the characteristic Witches’ Lake. Continue on a gentle descent to reach the village of Cianciavero and from here return to “Casa del Parco”. A little above Cianciavero, at the end of the 1980s, some archaeologists discovered traces of a temporary encampment of nomad hunters from the Mesolithic era, dating back to the middle of the 8th century B.C.
