Water plays an important role in Val d’Ossola, a land of fresh, very pure springs (the source of excellent mineral waters), raging waterfalls and modern spas.
Districts renowned for their water include Crodo, in Valle Antigorio (which is also famous for giving its name to the best-known non-alcoholic drink in Italy, Crodino: water and famous drinks are bottled here and the area’s thermal spa can be enjoyed in the summer), Bognanco (waters from the Gaudenziana, Ausonia and San Lorenzo springs are bottled here) and Malesco in Valle Vigezzo (with the Vigezzo and Alpia springs).
Iron-rich, warm water with special properties can be found in Trasquera, in Val Divedro, transported from the nearby Simplon Pass by the Mottiscia stream. Vanzone, Valle Anzasca, is home to the Acqua Vanzonis spring: claimed as the most mineral-rich water in the world, it contains 65 different metal elements. It is currently sold for pharmacological use and will eventually be incorporated in a spa.
Naturally, we cannot forget the warm, healing water of Bognanco and Premia, two nationally renowned spa resorts that are highly valued for the benefits and relaxation that they offer.
