“A Spasso tra le Streghe” (A walk with the witches) is an annual event held in Craveggia in Valle Vigezzo that pays tribute to one of the darkest and disturbing practices in history, witch hunts.
Held every year since 2009, the event takes place in the centre of the small, charming village of Craveggia; the characteristic features of the porticos, the little squares and courtyards take visitors back in time to one of the most authentic settings of this consequential period in history.
Troupes of actors play witches and wizards, whilst the workshops and games add an element of fun for children as they learn about ancient rituals and beliefs, sampling local delicacies along the way. Although the witchcraft-themed event starts in the early afternoon, it isn’t until the sun goes down that things really get going, eventually leading to the spectacular burning of the witch at the stake, brought to life by dance routines in Craveggia’s beautiful main square.
