This is the only WWF reserve in the Ossola Valley, together with the one at Pian dei Sali in Vigezzo Valley: the WWF Bosco Tenso Nature Reserve, set up in 1990 in the territory of Premosello Chiovenda, stretches over a large woodland area of around 22 hectares.
It is in Lower Ossola, along the shores of the River Toce, in an area of outstanding environmental value: the level and broad nature trails in the woodland area, marked by signposts and illustrated by information panels, are suitable for all walkers, whether expert or not.
The Bosco Tenso Nature Reserve is prevalently wetland given the proximity of the most important river in the Ossola Valley, and is covered by dense woods of mixed broad-leaved trees (mostly oak, ash, lime, willow, cherry and sessile oak) and by hawthorn, honeysuckle and elder bushes.
Forty or so species of birds, including splendid specimens of heron, cuckoo, tawny owl, great tit, kingfisher, blackbird, crag martin, buzzard and woodpecker populate this WWF Nature Reserve; hares, foxes, badgers and squirrels can also be seen along the trails.
The WWF Bosco Tenso Nature Reserve is an inexhaustible source of biodiversity, which you can experience at a strictly “slow” pace, surrounded by unspoilt nature.
