Winepress and Mills Route

The Via dei Torchi e dei Mulini (Winepress and Mills Route), a pleasant walk through the woods, retraces the ancient paths that once connected the villages located in the Domodossola highlands. Following the stone mule tracks, you will pass through small rural communities, discovering ancient presses, mills and recently restored ovens. Visiting these places will allow you to come into contact with the farming tradition and the historical customs of the Ossola valleys.
The Via dei Torchi e dei Mulini brings the daily life of a past civilization back to life: in Tappia, a little hamlet in Villadossola, you can visit the old community bread oven that dates back to 1871, while the charming stone village in Anzuno, which overlooks the Ossola plain and is kissed by the sun, is home to a large press for pressing grapes and a series of mills for grinding rye.
The route, which is also suitable for children, extends at a low altitude for a total of around 19 kilometres and can be travelled all year round. Just a stone’s throw from the centre of Domodossola, it is a real dive into the past that will allow you to rediscover the pleasure of walking among nature and local history.
