The Toce Falls

Powered by the river formed in the Riale plain, in Formazza Valley, from the confluence of the Hosand, Gries and Rhoni rivers, the Toce Falls, with its majestic 143 metre-tall (469 ft) waterfall, is a symbol of the Ossola Valley and one of the tallest waterfalls in Europe.
The Toce Falls, in the hamlet of Frua at an altitude of 1675 metres (5495 ft), is considered one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the Alps. Human intervention has reduced its flow rate for most of the year: upstream of the waterfall, the Morasco dam is used to supply the hydroelectric plants in the valley and its waters are released only on a few days from June to September. It is only at these times of year that the Toce Falls are shown to visitors from all over the world in their greatest splendour. To fully enjoy this natural spectacle, we recommend you to admire it from the bottom or by using the wooden walkway located on top of the rocks, next to the historic hotel dating back to 1863.
