The Teatro La Fabbrica (The Factory Theatre) was founded in 1997 on the wishes of the Villadossola Town Council and thanks to funding by the European Community on a disused industrial site.
Villadossola, in the past a major iron and steel centre, suffered the effects of the general industrial crisis in the Ossola area that occurred in the last decades of the 20th century: for this reason, many factories that have been shut down are now used for other purposes. “La Fabbrica” arts centre, built on the former Ceretti industrial area, is perhaps the most successful of these.
With its 650 seats, the theatre is one of the best equipped structures in the area where theatre events, concerts and conferences can be held. Great actors and actresses from the national theatre scene have performed and continue to perform on its stage. Meetings and readings are periodically held there and increasingly more space is given to local authors and publishing companies. An annual event held there is “La Fabbrica di Carta” (The Paper Factory), the very popular Verbano-Cusio-Ossola Book Fair.
