Parish Church of Santi Pietro and Paolo – Crevoladossola

The Parish Church of St. Peter and St. Paul in Crevoladossola, perched on an isolated site on a rocky spur, is a veritable artistic monument. Its architectural history spans many centuries: originally in Romanesque style, still visible in the bell tower, it has undergone numerous changes over time. In 1500, on the orders of the noble Della Silva family, the current presbytery was added, so elaborately decorated as to seem to be an aristocratic chapel; in the same year, the structure with a nave and two side aisles was rebuilt, over a pre-existing structure consecrated in 1331.
There are exquisite stained-glass windows in the style of the Northern European School with portraits of the condottiero Paolo I della Silva and his wife Andreina da Baceno.
The façade, made with Crevoladossola marble, has an elegant rose window, as well as various Renaissance friezes and bas-reliefs. The original 17th century attic bears the sculpted arms of the Della Silva, De Rodis and De Baceno families, while the Romanesque bell tower has Lombard bands and repeated three-light mullioned windows. In front of the spotless façade, a surrounding wall delimits the parvis and it has an arched opening decorated on both sides by four bas-reliefs.
A true gem of architecture and faith, it is absolutely worth visiting.
