Botanical Garden of the Sacred Mount Calvary

The clergymen who inhabited the Sacred Mount Calvary of Domodossola managed land adjoining the architectural complex, which they used for agricultural purposes and for ornamental gardens. The agricultural land was used to cultivate vines, fruit trees, forage crops and vegetables. The Botanical Garden of the Sacred Mount Calvary of Domodossola has a network of paths that allow visitors to follow a well-structured, functional route: individual plants are labelled according to a precise scientific methodology, making them part of a route of great botanical interest.
The Botanical Garden of the Sacred Mount Calvary is suitable for promoting both traditional crops and medicinal plants, including species historically documented in the gardens of the Ossola and others with a symbolic, religious association. The garden evokes a hortus conclusus, the ancient garden typical of religious complexes.
The “Forti Insieme” (Strong Together) association has overseen activities and projects in this green space for years. Some have involved students from local elementary schools, such as the “L’Orto dei bambini” (Children’s vegetable garden) project, which aimed to redesign the aromatic herb garden.
You can book visits and guided tours to the garden.
